2.0 – Research
Dont panic we are not going to do a degree in the subject we are going to find out what people are talking about in your industry sector. Remember you need to engage your audience so you need to find out who is talking, asking questions about your industry. So this is what you need to do:
2.1 – List your top 10 topics
Write out a simple list of 10 topics you think people like talking about in your industry sector. We are going to use a simple tool that will hunt the Internet for mentions of these topics, so think about what people are writing about. Later you will be using this tool to engage in topics of conversation.
2.2 – Google Alerts
The tool we will be using is Google Alerts to monitor the 10 topics you have chosen above. Firstly you will need to register with Google Webmaster Central. Dont panic you dont have to be a web guru to follow this. Once you have done this and logged in go to Google Alerts. Now setup a google alerts for your top ten topics and have the results delivered to your email everyday. You will now have a list that you can visit and see if you can either help or engage in and provide a link back to your website.
2.3 – Topics in the Social Media Websites
OK Google Alerts wont do everything so you need to search for topics in the following:
- Coconex
Once you have found a topic that interests you, then become a friend, connection, fan or follow the names and groups that result in your search.
2.4 – Bookmarking Sites
Now its time to setup some accounts with bookmarking sites. What are bookmarking sites? They are simply sites that store your favourite items found on the Internet. You will see on this site at the bottom of each page an icon for these sites and when you click on them (if you are registered) you will bookmark the page o your account. It is therefore important that your own website has these as well so that people can bookmark your site. Please now regsiter with the following bookmark sites:
