Why we like Google Plus

The release of Google Plus as a competitor of Facebook has put the cat amongst the pigeons. That is what is so great about the Internet that makes it so engaging.

Facebook has been around a long time and some people use it all day everyday. It has lots of facilities and some very engaging apps. Google Plus is very much in its infancy and as yet has a simple but clean interface. This doesn’t mean that it will stay this way. Google will no doubt add to functionality.

So why do we like Google Plus?

Actually its more about why we don’t like Facebook. When you post a message on Facebook all your friends see your post. Now I don’t know about you but when I post something about my personal life I don’t want my work colleagues to see that. Especially when someone replies to my post and doesn’t realise my work colleagues can see what they have written. Yes there are privacy options but fundamentally this is shocking. People have used it so long that they have just got used to it and accept it because Facebook do not listen to feedback, and when they do they take so long to change.

Google Plus on the other hand has started with this built in from the start. You create a circle of friends/colleagues and when you post (and they reply) only those in that circle can view or respond. (Correct me if Im wrong).

This is a fundamental in built privacy function and well done to Google.

I don’t care if all the other functions are not there, I am sure they will be.

If you havnt been able to join Google Plus yet because you havnt had an invitation then just add your email below and I will invite you.

Let me know what you think about Google Plus. Good or bad!

Google + for business

Google + (Google Plus) the latest in the fight for Social Media supremacy has a slightly different stance in engaging people.

Should you and your business be interested in this new Google product?

Well Google provides the most powerfull search engine, it has however suffered in the past from fragmented products, as they buy up the worlds Internet technology, they have never really sewn them together into one online experience, which makes it confusing for many. If Google get this right then this could be the answer.

Firstly its just another Social Media site to battle against Facebook. It does however have a different approach.

The idea is to make your web experience similar to real life, using circles. After all thats what we do everyday we discuss different topics to different circles of friends. For example you dont want your boss knowing about what you do in your circle of friends in a particular bar, so you can be assured that the things you want to share in a ‘circle’ are restricted to that circle of friends.

Sounds good to us.

So Google has a new Social Media site called G+ (Google Plus) so what is Google +1?

You have no doubt already seen the +1 symbol next to your search results. These allow you to endorse that particular result, so your friends can see that you think that website is good in your opinion. The two brand names are similar but are two different products. It does however look like Google will be bringing these together, if they do there will be a big implication to SEO, which means businesses must pay attention to this, because even if they are not interested in Social Media all businesses should pay attention to any effects of SEO on Google.

So what about business?

Essentially Google + is for individuals not businesses and Christian Oestlien (this is Christian’s Google + profile) one of the developers of the Google + project has requested that businesses do not sign up at this stage. If they do they will be taken down. With all the requests for businesses they are now developing a business version of Google +.

We think the concept is great, we think this will be the way forward for businesses to use Social Media on the Internet. So lets get used to the concept personally by joining with a personal profile before we risk our companies reputation with this.

What do you think?
